The Greatest Battle

The greatest battle fought
Is not in the ring of clashing swords
Nor the red of blood spilled
Nor the pain of fear seared

Its not in the echoes of guns and powder
Nor in the cries of hate and power
Neither in the bygone cannons of sailing ships
Nor in ancient armies that play for keeps

Its not in the despair of jealous lovers
Nor in the thundering of army horses
Neither in the clash of shields and steel
Nor in haunting ghosts of broken deals

Its not in the sweetness of bitter revenge
Nor the heartbreak of love avenged
Tell me then the greatest battle fought
That beats time, space, and all it ought

The greatest battle fought
Is in man's mind of thought
Never was of sword or spear
But within one's soul so dear

It is all in the fight
Of what is good and right
Eternal is the battle against wrong
Beginning of forever till the end is long
